  • What are our favorite features?
    • We loved how easy it was to use and assemble the Yuneec Typhoon H3 drone. This model is easy to transport, and the entire system and the accessories can easily fit in a protective case or luggage-size backpack. We were especially impressed that the standard kit came with HV batteries that are rechargeable and changeable. We noticed that each battery could last about 20-25 minutes of flight time, which is highly convenient.
    What could be better?
    • Even though the Yuneec Typhoon H3 drone has impressive features, it’s relatively expensive. This makes it difficult for hobbyists to purchase it. We also realized that even though the flight insurance time of the 2 batteries is around 25 minutes, it takes them about 2 hours to charge fully, which is extremely long.

If there’s anything like overnight success, then Yuneec is definitely one of the primary exhibits. This brand went from being unknown to being one of the top household names in the drone community. The Yuneec Typhoon H3 is one of the best drone kits in the market. It has a reliable and safe design that features 6 rotors that enhances air stability. This Yuneec drone also has a 7″ touchscreen display that is built into the remote control. This feature comes in handy when you’re taking live shots as it ensures that your subject is in the viewfinder. The Yuneec Typhoon H3 is easy to use and assemble. Thanks to the quick-release mechanism, you can easily fit the propellers. The rotor arms are also easy to fold, which makes the drone portable.

This hexacopter drone is specifically engineered for professional photographers and comes with a 4-sensor camera that’s setting new standards in aerial photography. This model has superior image quality, lossless digital zoom, and focus settings that give it technical versatility. It also comes with retractable landing gear and a continuous gimbal rotation that allows the camera to take great panoramic shots.

What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.
    What are its best features?
    • We were impressed by how versatile the Hobbypower DIY F550 drone is. It has features that can accommodate drone pilots of all experience levels and can be used for both recreational and commercial purposes. Despite not coming with a camera, you can easily attach one to the mount, enabling you to take some aerial photographs.
    What could be improved?
    • Even though the Hobbypower DIY F550 DIY kit is highly affordable and has multiple functionalities, you have to buy the batteries separately. This was an additional expense that we hadn't anticipated and were highly inconvenienced by it. We also noticed that the colors were slightly different compared to what is showcased on Amazon, but this was something we were willing to overlook.

The beauty of building your drone from scratch is that you feel more in control of your drone when you’re flying it. You didn’t just take an off-the-shelf, prebuilt aircraft; you took time to actually assemble your device. The Hobbypower DIY F550 Hexacopter Kit comes highly recommended, and it’s not hard to see why. This machine is very stable and comes with a flight duration period of about 30 minutes which is highly impressive. It comes with all the parts ready for assembly, including a GPS module, flight controller, and an ESC, and brushless motor. This drone also has a return to home functionality that allows the drone to go back to where it initially flew off.

The Hobbypower DIY F550 model is highly versatile, and even though it lacks a camera, you can easily make a few adjustments so that the mount holds your camera rig for either recreational flying or professional aerial photography. This feature makes the drone suitable for both professional and intermediate drone flyers. The DIY 550 also has a smart mode feature which comes in handy if you’re a novice pilot.

  • What do we love it for?
    • We loved how the manufacturer managed to fit in as many features as possible for such a low price. The MJX X800 model is a great pick for beginners, and the controls are pretty intuitive to ensure you have a smooth flying experience. We also loved how stable and robust the drone was and its ease of assembly.
    What were we disappointed with?
    • The MJX X800 drone has been built with beginners in mind and is unsuitable for professionals. We wish the manufacturer increased the flight duration because 7 minutes is very short even with multiple batteries. The batteries also take a long time to charge (90 minutes), so if you're looking for the ultimate flying experience, you'll have to buy many. This drone also lacks GPS functionality.

The MJX X800 is proof that you can get a hexacopter drone without breaking the bank. It’s one of the best low-budget kits in the market but still has enough features to give you a complete drone flying experience. It may not have an expensive camera, but this model-sized craft is highly stable thanks to its multi-rotor design and promises a powerful performance. This drone has a design that makes 3D action easy. For instance, its automated rolls are very robust and powerful, and you can do them in any direction. The new structure of the GoolRC MJX X800 drone makes it easy to maintain and assemble, while the 6-Axis gyro quad-rotorcraft flight makes it strong and more stable.

This drone is best suited for beginners that are just dipping their toes into the fun world of flying drones. It is very intuitive and comes with 2 remote control options; the gravity control mode and the RC control mode. This drone has a control range of 55m which is pretty limited, but for such a low price, that’s as good as it gets. It comes with 2 rechargeable batteries that will give you about 7 minutes of flight each, which is why we recommend you get extra ones.

  • What makes it stand out?
    • We loved how the manufacturers managed to fit in a lot of features without hiking the price. For instance, this drone has a low voltage alarm function that beeps on the controller when the battery charge is running out, and the drone needs to return. This model also has bright LED lights that ease navigation and flight orientation when you're flying the drone far away.
Which disadvantages must you keep in mind?
    • While the Xheli UDI Drone RC U845 Voyager is highly affordable, we noticed that most of its features are only suitable for beginner pilots. The flight duration is also very low as you can only fly the drone for a maximum of 18 minutes with both batteries. This is highly inconvenient, especially because the batteries take 120 minutes to charge fully. The transmitter operation range is also low at about 250 feet.

If you’re a hobbyist looking for a budget-friendly hexacopter drone with the basic features, then the Xheli UDI Drone RC U845 Voyager model should be one of your top picks. It’s one of the latest models from the brand and has a 6 axis gyro feature that makes it highly agile and stable. This drone has a flight duration period of 6 to 9 minutes which is great if you’re simply looking to have some fun. It comes with 2 rechargeable batteries to double this time and can easily be charged using a USB port. The Xheli UDI Drone RC U845 Voyager model has a headless mode that comes in handy when you lose the orientation of the device. This mode allows you to continue flying your drone even when it’s out of sight.

The Xheli UDI Drone RC U845 Voyager model is best suited for novice drone pilots. It has all the functional capabilities but one of the premium features. It comes with an HD camera that can shoot 30 frames per second, allowing you to take photos and videos from the sky. It’s easy to use and features several speed modes (low, medium-high) so that you’re always in control of your drone.

    What makes it stand out?
    • We were impressed at how easy it was to assemble the QWinOut 600mm DIY drone kit, especially with the multiple parts it came with. The GPS functionality allows you to keep track of your craft, while the multi-control remote system allows you to keep tabs on the important details. We noticed that based on its build and features, it's best suited for intermediate drone flyers.
Which disadvantages must you keep in mind?
    • Due to the number of parts that come with the QWinOut 600mm DIY drone kit, we felt it would be easier if the manufacturer included an assembling guide; beginners may have a hard time putting the parts together. You also have to buy your own batteries, which is highly inconvenient. We, however, recommend that you buy batteries based on how much weight you're willing to carry.

If you enjoy DIY projects, then you’ll definitely appreciate the QWinOut ARF/PNP Full Set Hexacopter DIY Drone Kit. Assembling it is a hassle-free process, and it comes with all the parts needed, so you won’t have to buy any additional ones. The input 600mm also comes with solid, high-quality parts that are built to last. For instance, most of its elements are made with high-quality carbon fiber, which is hard to find among similarly priced kits. Even though this DIY drone kit doesn’t come with assembly instructions, it’s fairly easy to build as there are several resources, including Youtube videos, to guide you.

One of the features that make the QWinOut 600mm DIY drone kit stand out from the envious models is the multicopter flight controller. It comes with a PX4 PIX 2.4.8 Flight Controller that features a safety switch buzzer and guarantees high performance. The drone also has GPS functionality and a multifunction remote control system that has 5 models, a clear display with colorful screen resolutions, and an expansion feedback module that allows you to get real-time details of your drone.

    Things to Consider

Drones are rapidly gaining popularity, and it’s not hard to see why. They guarantee a remarkable flying experience and can be used for both commercial and recreational purposes. In fact, according to the BBC Trusted Source Isle of Wight NHS trust trials drones for chemotherapy deliveries Drones could be used to deliver chemotherapy drugs to cancer patients from Hampshire to the Isle of Wight. www.bbc.com , drones are now being used to deliver chemo drugs which is quite impressive.
Picking the right hexacopter for you is a tedious process, especially because there are so many factors you need to consider. For instance, you can’t just buy a drone based on its features alone. You have to determine whether it’s suitable for your experience level.

    How does a hexacopter work?

Hexacopters are unmanned aerial vehicles that are handled using ground-based controllers. They are both multirotor & drones and have propeller blades and 6 motors. This gives them more speed, endurance, stability, and power. Even though drone hobbyists love hexacopters, they are mostly used to conduct professional-grade aerial photography.

    Hexacopter vs. quadcopter

5 Reliable Hexacopters for Better Speed, Power and Stability (Spring 2024)

The number of motors is the key difference between a hexacopter and quadcopter

The main difference between these two types of drones is the number of motors. Hexacopters have 6, while quadcopters have 4.

Pros of owning a hexacopter instead of a quadcopter

Hexacopters have multiple tangible benefits over quadcopters. Even though they’re more expensive, they are with every buck you spend on them. Than main pros include:

    1. Speed: since hexacopters have more wind resistance, flight stability, and thrust, they’re able to achieve higher speeds compared to quadcopters, irrespective of the size.

    2. Lifting Power: the 2 extra motors give hexacopters up to 30% more lifting capabilities. This is especially important if you’re planning on using the drone for professional-grade photography.

    3. Stability: hexacopters are more stable compared to quadcopters due to the 2 extra rotors, which are 120 degrees apart. This is equivalent to adding 2 more legs to a dining table. It will be significantly difficult to rock.

    4. Altitude: the additional motors and propellers allow the hexacopter to fly higher than quadcopters. In most cases, this feature doesn’t matter much, but there are instances where it’s a significant advantage.

    5. Redundancy: This is perhaps one of the most important benefits of hexacopters. Even if one of the rotors fails, you can easily land the drone. When it comes to quadcopters, the motors are designed to work in pairs, and stability is dependent on all of them working effectively. If one of them fails, the device can’t balance. With hexacopters, even if one fails, the other 5 will still be enough to maintain stability.

Cons of owning a hexacopter instead of a quadcopter

There are instances where quadcopters give hexacopters a run for their money. The 2 major ones are:

    1. Price: hexacopters are more expensive, but the extra features you get are worth the money you spend on them.

    2. Weight: to prevent the extra motors from rubbing against each other, the arms of the hexacopters are usually longer. This makes the done more bulky and difficult to pack.

How to choose the best hexacopter drone

Drones are shaping various industries, and according to CNN Trusted Source The FPV drone pilots taking cameras where humans can't go Standing deep in the jungle of Venezuela, Ellis van Jason was surrounded by insects. “These ants went into my ear, into my nose, like even inside the goggles,” he tells CNN. edition.cnn.com , they are helping photographers access areas where humans can’t go. Before purchasing a hexacopter drone, here are the top factors you should consider.

    Size and weight

5 Reliable Hexacopters for Better Speed, Power and Stability (Spring 2024)

It is vital that you take into account the drone’s payload if you plan on mounting a camera or any other equipment on it

The drone’s payload determines how much weight it can carry. This is important if you plan on mounting your equipment on the craft, e.g., a camera. Most drones like the Yuneec Typhoon H3 come with the camera equipment already included, but there are others that require you to buy the equipment separately.

The size of the drone impacts its portability. If you opt for a big drone, it will be bulkier, making it difficult to transport.

    Assembly

If you plan on buying a DIY hexacopter drone kit such as the Hobbypower DIY F550 or the QWinOut ARF/PNP Full Set, you need to take a closer look at how long it will take you to assemble the drone. Most of the time, assembly is usually straightforward, especially if you’re acquainted with drones, but if you’re a novice drone pilot, it could take you longer. You should also check whether the kit comes with an instruction manual.

    Flight time

The flight time highly determines the quality of your drone-flying experience and is usually impacted by the battery life.

Before purchasing a hexacopter drone, map out your needs and then determine how much battery life you’ll require. Some drones can fly for up to 30 minutes, while there are others like the GoolRC MJX X800 that only go for 7 minutes.

    Charging time

How long does it take for the batteries to fully charge once they are depleted? Most drones come with replacement batteries, and each battery charges in roughly 2 hours. We, however, recommend that you check the charging time against the flight time. For instance, if a battery only gives you 10 minutes of flight time but takes 2 hours to charge, you’ll have to buy more batteries which is an extra expense.

Drones with inbuilt cameras are lighter and more functional

Some hexacopter drones come with their own cameras, but there are others that require you to mount your camera on them. It’s easier to buy models with inbuilt cameras because they are more functional and are lighter. You should also consider factors such as the ability to control the camera angle.

    Resolution

If you’re specifically buying a drone for its photography abilities, you need to consider the number of megapixels and the video resolutions. This will help you buy a model that is best suited for your needs and can take high-quality images.

    Control distance

For recreational drone users, this may not seem like an important consideration, but if you need the drone for photography, you need to know the control range. Most of the time, the farthest control distance is usually 30m, but this range is only available in high-end models.

Control distance also impacts your accessibility, especially in areas that are difficult to get to.

    GPS

GPS capabilities help with navigation. They help your drone avoid obstacles and protect them from bumping into objects. Most importantly, they help your drone get back to its initial position, especially when you lose control of your craft.

    Other features

Some of the other features you should pay close attention to include:

    • Reporting and data capabilities, especially if your drone is for commercial use.
    • Replacement options. If some parts of your drone malfunction, can you easily get replacement parts?
    • Speed, especially if you’re taking photos and videos of fast-moving objects.
    • Maximum flight height.

    FAQ

Yes. When it comes to functionality, Hexacopters are way better. For instance, they are more stable, faster, have a higher lifting power, and can fly at high altitudes. Unlike quadcopters, their functionality is not impacted by one of the motors malfunctioning.

Hexacopters are however bulky and expensive, but this is a small price to pay.

The price varies based on the available features but on average, a hexacopter designed for beginner pilots can cost anywhere between $100 to $400 USD. Professional-grade ones are more expensive and can even cost $6,000 USD.
